My 20% Time Speech

                My name is Justin Sprouse, and for my 20% time project, I learned how to code. Coding is where you write scripts for a computer. Code has many uses, such as making websites, games, and more. My goal of the 20% time project was to learn code and learn about what motivates me, and I accomplished this goal.

                During this project, I learned the 3 types of code required to become a computer programmer and how to make a website as you will see in a few minutes. I learned HTML, JavaScript, and CSS code, the three codes required to be a programmer. I also learned a code called Batch which is used for making viruses, games, and has many other uses. HTML is sort of the back bone of the website; it is the basic parts of the website. CSS is like the muscles and the other parts of the body, necessary to complete the body. JavaScript, the final code I learned, is used as the makeup of the website. It isn’t necessary, but it makes the site look better.

                Although I accomplished the goal I had, there are still many things I would like to learn about code and myself. I still have yet to learn any other kinds of code other than JavaScript, HTML, Batch and CSS. I learned code because learning code can help me get a job in the future.

                My biggest accomplishment while learning code was making batch files. Making batch files helped me demonstrate my favorite kind of code I learned; Batch. I consider this to be an accomplishment because it helped me understand how I can use code in the real world.

                I think that the 20% time project helped me learned more about myself and learn more about something I can use in the real world; code. I learned what motivates me; hard work for the future. I work hard so I can have something to look forward to. I learned code now so I can know it whenever I try for a job in that field.

               

Plans For The Future

Blog Outline

This blog post for the week is going to be a post about what I plan to do for the rest of the year. For the next post, I plan on outlining what I am doing for the final project. I plan on either making a game using JavaScript or writing my own website. I may do both. In order to make my own game, I will first have to find a program that will allow me to make one. If I want to make a website, I also need to find a program. Making a website will be easier than making a game which is why I plan to do both.

I have learned the 3 types of code that I wanted to learn; JavaScript, CSS, and HTML. Now I need to apply these by making a game or making a website. Next week I will decide which one I want to do and outline what I will do when making it.

Plan For 2015

This is my first blog post of 2015, and it will consist of a plan for what is to come in the new year. This year, I plan on finishing up learning the basics of CSS code. Like I have said in previous posts, CSS is a code used to make websites look fancier. This post is using simple CSS commands. For the next post, I plan on learning more JavaScript in the future. After I learn more of JavaScript, I am going to learn different forms of code, and possibly some Batch code. Batch is a form of code where you can give the computer commands and do some cool things.

That is the plan for what I hope will be a successful 2015. I hope I can learn as much as I can about JavaScript, CSS, and HTML because there are lots of job opportunities if I know those 3 types of code.

 Description: I am trying to learn code in order to make websites and get a job in the field.

 1) Overview of Project Proposal

 Project Objective: For my project, I will learn code. The specific codes I will try and be fluent in are HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. HTML is a basic code used to make websites. HTML is the format for almost every website you go to, including my blog. CSS is a code that goes in depth on HTML coding. Most websites also use CSS coding. CSS is a code that makes websites colorful and pretty to look at. CSS can change the background of web pages as well as make tables and graphs. JavaScript will allow me to make basic flash games and make cooler things to my blogs. I can make things to change the text on my blog, as well as make links to different pages.

2) Project Rationale

Technology is the fastest growing field in the world. There are lots of jobs opening up. I could work in the government as a hacker; I could work for Google as a programmer. There are lots of jobs open and I plan to have my career in this field. 

3) Project Time Line

 My first step will be to learn HTML. Next, I will try CSS and JavaScript and see what I want to learn first. Whatever I don’t pick I will learn next. I will plan to be fluent in all 3 code languages, as well as being able to know some hacking or Batch code.

4) Timeline of Activities

 I have already learned HTML and dabbled in CSS and JavaScript. I plan on going in depth on JavaScript first then CSS. I then plan on making a blog post showing how far I’ve come with my coding abilities in March-April. I then plan on learning basic Batch code which is a hacking code, but I will learn that on my own time most likely. 

5) Available Human and Material Resources

My mentors, w3schools (a website I am using to learn code), and funcode (another website).

 6) Possible Road Blocks

 One roadblock will be the fact that some things I can’t do on the school computers. I do not plan on learning how to do basic hacking on school property. Another roadblock is that no matter how much I practice, I will still need a cheat sheet for the commands. The commands are difficult to remember on any code but HTML.

 7) Research Questions

1. How will I learn codes past HTML, CSS, and JavaScript? 2. How will I learn basic hacking skills? 3. If I am starting now, will I need to go to college and get a degree in code if I will know so much by that time? 4. How much effort will I put into this outside of the 20%? 5. What field of computer technology am I going to go into?

CSS Code

This is my first blog post using CSS code. CSS code is like HTML code, but a little bit more complicated. Instead of doing basic commands, CSS code uses commands that can change the background of your posts as well change the color of your texts. Using CSS code, I can also change the font as well as change the font size. Next week, I will make a blog post using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code. Combining all 3 of these codes is how major companies make their websites. People can also use databases to make websites. Databases are places where information is stored on a computer and can be accesses in various ways. Next week, we will use CSS, JavaScript, and HTML to make a more complex blog post.

JavaScript

This is my second blog using JavaScript.

This is another blog post. This is an update on my progress in the code called JavaScript. JavaScript is used to make commands on HTML coding and in other cases, used to make games. JavaScript has many cool commands, such as the one you will see here in this post. This command will change this paragraph and the one above it to something different. Pretty cool, huh? The more I practice JavaScript, the more complex my commands will get. With JavaScript, you can do some pretty amazing things. JavaScript is required my computer programmers to learn because of its usefulness in making websites as well as making basic games. In the near future I may have a game for you to play. So stay tuned to my blog!
